Many people dread Mondays. Most of the time, I’m one of them. I can get increasingly upset or bummed out on Sunday nights, which isn’t fun for anyone. So to counter this, I’m instituting a new plan: Mindfulness Monday!
Each Monday, I pledge to:
- Return to my breath every 30 minutes. I’ve got my phone timer set, and when the alarm goes off, I’ll practice a 4-4-8 count breath: breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and breath out for 8 seconds. I’ll do this three times in a row.
- Take a walk, and keep my phone in my bag. It doesn’t matter where, or for how long; but I will just focus on what the walk feels like, and what I see and hear.
- Call a friend/family member and have a conversation.
- Practice Living Open, and review the principles three times a day. What have I done, what can I can do? How do I feel about what I’ve done so far today? I’ve got phone alerts set for 10am, 4pm, and 10pm.
You can bring mindfulness into your own life as well. This was a great little article with different techniques. What are your favorites?
